The FAQs

Where is the class?

I did not take Math 6341.
Is the class suitable for me?
If you are a graduate student in mathematics or the sciences and have
a solid foundation in analysis, including the notions of
dominated convergence, Lp and Hilbert spaces,
and weak solutions, and have taken some courses where you
had to solve PDE's, you should be OK. Math 6342 could nicely complement
our course on
Hilbert space
(
Math 6580), for example, and it is good preparation for thesis work
in areas like applied mathematics and mathematical physics.
If you need a first course on PDE's, you may prefer a math course at the 4000
level. There are several choices, especially
Math 4347 and
Math 4348.
